How to find inspiration for your paintings

Being an artist requires an active imagination which, sometimes can be tough and mentally draining. It happens to everyone eventually.
Here are some ideas to reignite the spark in your creativity.

Easy Access

Make sure your supplies are easily accessible, ie, you don’t have to dig through closets to find your tools or move stuff around to have a working space which will also save your time because doing all these chores is tiring and is likely to make you feel less motivated to do something.

Don’t waste time

Even if you ‘don’t feel like it’ yo have to do something productive with your time like practising techniques, reading or just doodling. You can’t slack off and leave it for tomorrow, you need to do something even if only for half an hour.

Take photos

Whenever you find something or are somewhere interesting take a snap. Don’t look for photos on the internet(maybe for extra references), look into the real world, there is always something to discover.

Use the photos

Look through your old artworks and the pictures you have taken for ideas. Try to remember why you took that picture or what else you wanted to try in your work but you didn’t have the time and soon forgot.

Sketching

If you’re out of ideas, you can always make a still life sketch, doesn’t have to be a decorated vase or anything fancy, anything around the room will do, try and use different techniques or styles to get some new ideas and practice.

Meeting others

It’s nice to meet like-minded people and talk about your interests. You can learn something new and get some new ideas about what to do. IT is also good for your morale to have fun and interact instead of sitting alone looking for inspiration, let it find you.

Keep Learning

You can also try to learn something new. Even if it’s not relevant to your style it is good to learn something new and have fun. Take a course, a workshop even reading a book about something new is helpful.

Challenge Yourself

There are all kinds of odd challenges on the internet, but I am talking about Art Challenges in which you are given a certain theme or topics to draw or paint every day, you don’t win anything but it could be fun to try and limit yourself can be a nice challenge for your creativity.

Here are some of the things you can try to get your creative juices flowing, there will be some bad days but you have to keep going and growing to be a better artist. It is important for an artist to keep learning new things and growing but you also need to relax and enjoy what you do.

If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life.
